History - Jedburgh Castle was a monument at Jedburgh in Scotland. It was fought over during the Wars of Scottish Independence, and was demolished by the Scots commanded by Sir James Douglas of Balvenie in 1409
In 1823 a jail was built on the site to designs by Archibald Elliot. This closed in 1868. The building was restored to an 1820s appearance in 1964 and opened to the public as Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum. The museum also features local history displays. The location was investigated by Most Haunted in their eleventh series.
The jail is said to be haunted by a nasty man called Edwin McArthur. He was a prisoner at the jail and since his own execution in 1855 he has been seen threatening members of the public, scaring many people and causing a dark atmosphere. Jedburgh Jail has a harsh and biitter atmosphere. Some of the spirits encountered here have not been friendly to say the least.
This Georgian prison was considered one of the most modern in its time. Three prison blocks show life of the period. The Jail was built in 1823 on the site of Jedburgh's medieval castle, which was destroyed in 1409.
The new jail was designed by Archibald Elliot as a Howard Reform prison, a result of agitation by social advocate John Howard. When it was built the Jedburgh prison was considered a model for other gaols. The jail closed in 1868, but almost a century later it was restored and opened to the public.
My mate bought me tickets to do a ghost hunting tour, to be honest i just wanted to go to have access to the place without any of the public in, spent around 5hrs in the place and actually really enjoyed the event / night. Enjoy the snaps
