Report - Kelmarsh Tunnel Northamptonshire Jan 2015

Like Oxendon Tunnels these are single tracks both up and down, the up one is part of a public footpath and has a air shaft. the down one is locked but the bars have been forced apart so is accessible. Both are 520 yards. The down one opened in 1859 and the up one opened in 1879. both closed in 1984. Visited with explorer dog Binky

Above ground, here, that air shaft is very prominent in the landscape!

i had a look at both of them whilst i was there ,they are taller than most ive been to .strange that theres no grills on top
