The former Kingsway cinema at Kings Heath, Birmingham is in a very sorry state. It was last used as a Gala bingo hall and can be seen in all its glory as such elsewhere on this site. I visited it in June 2016 and quite an adventure it was. I admit it`s a walk-in job once you find the hole in the fence but it`s damn treacherous in there. The building is surrounded with old matresses etc that sink under one`s feet and the wooden flooring (what`s left of it) inside the cinema can be very sketchy too. There is a room of some sort under the stage but the steps had gone and I wasn`t going to risk finding myself stranded down it. The front of house though is still quite solid being largely of brick and concrete. I explored everywhere I could but my torch gave out almost immediately and I had to rely on flash photography which worked rather well. There is plenty of junk about in lots of little rooms. Talking of which the bogs are still in pretty goof nick considering. The projection room took a bit of finding as it`s slung under the balcony and is very cramped, totally stripped too. If you go there, and it`s worth a visit, do be careful the place is a potential minefield.
