Report - La Gondola Hotel - Derby - April 2012

This hotel has been closed for a while now and the owners are trying to get it going again as it was once 'the place to be seen' [owners quote].
While I was in there they were making a documentary about its re-fit/history/story etc. The owner is mad as a bag of spanners.
Still not re-opened to date and they seem to have gone quiet on the documentary. I kept this back so I could see what would pan out with the renovation. Architecturally very boring, plain, dated decor and not much to see. Slight chav damage but as a whole fairly untouched and a great mooch.

I would have crapped myself seeing that doll sitting there. I think this place was featured on some Gordon Ramsey show or other.

Amazing condition and so much left inside but probably changed now either housing estate or unaffordable housing

i pass this place quite often. its still standing though looks to be in quite a sorry state. I did hear that the owner was still living on site for quite a long time after it had closed. not the poshest of areas but its a real shame that this place has fallen into such disrepair. it was certainly the place to be seen in derby in the 70's and was a regular haunt of all the footballer. the location and the fact it didnt mnove with the times probably did for it. the ramsey documentary showed just how bad it had got with i think packet soups being served! cant wait to see pics of what it is like now.

Drove past today, looks like they've started to refurb it
