Report - Little Plumstead Hospital, Norfolk, June 2014

Had the day off work and decided to do a bit of exploring with the missus, ended up here at the grounds of the old hospital. This place has been on the "to do" list for a long time


Little bit of history:


The Mental Deficiency Acts, 1927, indicated the need for specialised accommodation for mental defectives. The Norfolk County Council decided to establish a colony in 1928 and in 1929 purchased the Little Plumstead Hall Estate. The purchase included a mansion house with stables and six cottages and a farm with large premises, 90 acres of arable land and 40 acres of wooded parkland… The first patient was admitted on 29 April 1930 and the numbers built up to 70. The hospital eventually closed in the 1990's with many of the buildings already being demolished

To our surprise we got in the main admin building but the cameras were already packed away, so the next shot was taken on my phone

Fantastic! Got any more pictures from the main building? Was here with a mate just a couple of weeks ago and got in a few of the others including the one opposite the main building. Must've done three or four laps of the main one before giving up on it.

I was here a few weeks back. A few rooms away from that one someone had bundled up some blankets with a pair of wellies poking out the bottom. Think the fire engine pictures laid out freaked me out way more!

It does mate. Really surprised by the amount of syringes that were there, seems a bit out of the way to go and get needled up

Havent got anymore pics from the main building unfortunately, time was against us that day. Need to go back as soon as and hope the access is still there, a remember the camera this time haha

Wow! LPH is still there? My mate and I did that place when it first shut down - got to be around ten years ago? They'd knocked almost all of it down last time I went - and that was at least 4-5 years ago. Moved up north since. Did the builders go broke or something?
