Everything you need to know about the history, including some 2012 pictures, is on subbrit http://www.subbrit.org.uk/db/1447456923.html.
There is also a 2011-vintage report on here https://www.28dayslater.co.uk/threads/littlewoods-pools-air-raid-shelter-liverpool-october-2011.92080/
Visit. The location is well know - in fact we have tobogganed and cycled down the hill on the side of it for years. The last time I checked the one remaining entrance - last year sometime - it looked a bit difficult, but things seem to have changed.
The layout is very straightforward - a series of tunnel rectangles connected by more tunnels containing the side entrances. Most of the tunnels are in reasonable condition except for one which is flooded, and some at the south end with upheaved floors.
Several fragments of what were probably the iron lids for the ventilation and escape hatches.
Remnants of the seating and some ceiling graffiti (apparently done with lighters) which may or may not say 1942.
Many loos.
The famous graffiti, holding up quite well.
Quite what the Nazi high command were doing camped out in Littlewoods is a story yet to be told, but the evidence is overwhelming. The original solar powered gas lamp.
Secret superweapon - cold fusion milk bottle.
Goebbels’ teapot, Himmler’s cooking pan and Eva Braun’s left boot.
Best visited when dark, since the park is quite busy during the day.
