This one isn't quite the calibre of the recent resurgence of pre-2010 asylum posts but it was a pretty enjoyable and actually quite photogenic place for a wander around if stripped decayed hospitals full of peely paint are your thing.
The hospital had its origins in the Holywell Union Workhouse which was designed by John Welch and completed in 1840. A separate infirmary was added in 1913. The facility became the Luesty Public Assistance Institution in 1930 and then joined the National Health Service as Lluesty General Hospital in 1948. After services transferred to Holywell Community Hospital, Lluesty Hospital closed in 2008.
Since it closed in 2008 it's been stuck in development limbo, at the time of my visit it seemed as if something was beginning to happen as there was asbestos removal works going on in the boiler house and slates had been stripped from the roof of a part of it however I don't think the work ever really progressed and it's still sat there. The chapel here was such a let down, at some point it had had a suspended ceiling installed in it which absolutely butchered the aspects of the inside of the place.
Sadly I only got two external shots on the way out before it began to rain and my battery died, and I didn't really fancy changing it outside in the rain....
Thanks for looking
