Visited with JasperB and thanks to Dweeb
I've always wanted to visit Longbridge so it was great to finally get to see a bit of it. Massive thanks to Dweeb for giving us a heads up on this and loaning us some wellies.
It was a great night and something that will have to be repeated in future.
Birmingham seems to be full of great stuff and we'll definitely be getting down here more often to take it in.
The East Works was built upon a 15 acre site bounded by Groveley Lane and Lowhill Lane from 1936 onwards, as part of the Government's Shadow Factory Scheme which Lord Austin was in charge of from its inception that year. It included an under-ground factory built under Groveley Lane where aircraft engines and associated components were assembled during the Second World War. By March 1940 tunnels were also constructed to link to other parts of the works site.
