I was walking home the otherday past Mackintosh tunnel which is below the railway station and noticed ome of the pailings was loose.

A brief description, a subway which used to be open until sometime around 2006 down from Halifax station sharing steps down to Eureka, then under the station itself Westwards to a public footpath. There are one or two quirky rooms at the back which used to be part of the station building before it was burnt down and demolished in the 1980s.

I dont know if anyone has posted about it before or recently as Ive just joined the forum possibly for the second time. I thought I had signed up a few years ago although that might be with another email.

Mackintosh Tunnel is a route that passes beneath Halifax station, down stone steps upon the Southern side of the Station approach bridge and eastwards towards Nestle what used to be Mackintosh’s. The route was open until around 2006 when it was fenced off by Network Rail. The first section is narrow glazed brick lined walls, it opens out about halfway down when it reaches the original road tunnel when it was known as Navigation Road, when it connected the Canal wharf to Halifax Town Centre before the railway station was enlarged in 1885 which saw this route cut off to vehicles but pedestrian access maintained. There are a couple of rooms down there which used to be part of the railways Parcel offices, a vehicle loading dock is located in the tunnel.
