[SUP]After much procrastination, I will get this report done[/SUP]
Visited with The Kwan and Walsh
This report picks up from where my last one left off.
As a recap, we've just left the surface after having a look round the old dressing/processing houses.
After heading round and about looking for the adit down to the incline, we'd already spotted our goal. The overgrown triple incline heading down into the bowels of Moel Bowydd. After a bit of a faff trying to find the incline we wanted - we found another that we didn't -we came across the main incline. Finding the winding house, it's frankly amazing what's left. So much better than Cwmorthin!
Drums
Levers
Top of the shop, heading down
Looking back up
At the bottom of the incline we found a load of electrical gear, all stripped.
Also, a lot of compressor type gear
Heading further into the mine we had the decision, do we go the safe, modern way or found the top of another incline (The third so far)
The winding house
According to the Kwan (the groups spark), these are load regulators; specifically what is known as a Liquid rheostat
The incline itself
We had an option here, do we go down the incline, or do we go for a wander through through the adit next to the incline. We chose the latter. It ;ed us to an oddity. Slate paved adits, and odd bits of polystyrene. We thought show mine while we were down there but research since by Walsh has informed us that the miners where very house proud, as it where.
The first feature of interest - aside from the enormous caverns - was a lake
Here you can see some of the signs which led us to believe this was a show mine
We also spotted this; the Odal Rune. It's the symbol of the Waffen SS division Prinz Eugen. Quite what it's doing down a Welsh slate mine is beyond me, but I am open to suggestions.
Upon reaching an unpassible collapse cause by the untopping above, we retreated and headed back to the plant room at the bottom of the main incline. From there we followed the tracks just to see where they would lead us. What we found was what I assume to be evidence of more modern workings. Unfortunately the conditions down here weren't conductive to great photography, so I do apologise.
The Kwan
B&Q Special
Upturned trailer.
Moderately sized winch
Winding house with more Liquid Rheostats
The incline. A biggun
Walsh got a better picture of the incline than I did, he also seems more fluent with the google-foo than I am. Apparently the last incline we found is BIG. A cross post from Dark Prince on Walsh's report.
With time marching on, we returned to the surface, already planning our return.
Thanks to the Kwan and Walsh for great company.
The Kwan also sent me this which may be of interest to you.

There is a blog here with a bit of explanation regarding some of the potential issues with the vid.
See you with more soon.

I lasered measured that big incline (said incline) a while ago. Think it is:
35ft wide
29ft high
+300ft to water from the top (had to measure in 2 bits)
