We made a visit to one of the Interval Shelters 'Abris Bois de Klang X25, on the Maginot Line between 'Gross Ouvrage Hackenberg A19' and 'Mont des Welches A21'.
It is a two block caven shelter with two machine gun bells on the roof and MG positions covering the diamond ditches at the two entrance doors. The second floor down houses the filtration equipment. The stairways drop down about 25m to the shelter. There sleeping accommodation for about 120 troops plus officers quarters, Generator room, communcations room, kitchen, latrines and a troop rest room. The lower tunnels and rooms are partly flooded with around 8-10 inches of water. It is a bit different from the large combat blocks worth an explore. A bit of a treck to find, but worth it, we saw the barbed wire first.
Sorry for the pictures only have a moblie phone,
One of the MG bells on the roof.
North block with MG embrasures to cover the entrance.
A bit of a scramble over the diamond ditch. The old entrance bridge hanging below the door
The winch to the lower levels on the left.
The air filtration room on the lower floor.
At the bottom looking up
The flooded lower tunnels, still passable.
Heading to the accommodation rooms
Engine room for the electricity.
Troops accommodation.
Wash room with sinks,
Kitchen, scrap metal thieves have had the cooker away.
More sleeping accommodation.
The dunnie shot.
Water storage.
View across the passages
Troops rest room.
Troops rest room.
Heading back to the North staircase.
The escape tunnel and water outlet.
Had a chemical light to illuminate the exit,
Can just see the light still.
The South block, door is sealed so glad we did not climb all the up that way.
Barbed wire all around the site, it is the short 6 inch spikes to watch for.
