Report - Maltby Colliery - Yorkshire - September '15

First attempt was back in spring after a long day, just sat in the car waiting for google maps to load to work out how best to attack it and a police car pulls up. After a few questions and background checks "I find it rate strange thou is so far from home and so far from M1"

hmm this is 2015 not 1985 so a few months later at a loose end after the Vulcan had to cancel one of its flypasts we headed north again on the off chance...

Maltby Main Colliery was a coal mine situated on the eastern edge of the township of Maltby, South Yorkshire, some 7 miles east of Rotherham. The mine was closed in 2013.

Hargreaves are clearly in no hurry to clear up the site, considering it was closed 2.5 years ago.

Those are some good pics. I'm amazed that it is so clean in terms of general damage.

Maltby was the last underground coal mining vist I did in the UK - summer of 2004 I think. Fiendishly hot underground. Sad that it is now impossible to do.

seeing your pics reminded me of when i was a kid and i went with my dad when he worked there. does anyone know how this stands now would love to go and explore.
