Manchester One, Manchester - February 2014
Manchester One is a 80m high-rise office building on Portland Street. It was renamed Manchester One by owners Bruntwood in 2012, but I still like to call it by its previous moniker Portland Tower. Completed in 1962 by architects Leach Rhodes Walker and originally named St Andrews House, it is still Manchester's 6th tallest building. The tower has had various makeovers down the years, notably around the Commonwealth Games in 2002 - and many will remember the gregarious wall(s) of yellow it used to showcase on its side(s).
The process of getting on top of it was a bit of a challenge for me. Credit due to Skudge who I believe topped this before the New Year - whispers of this feat found me, which was the main reason I went to check it out, so yeah - nice one. It's a top rooftop.
