This has been on the list for as long as I can remember, so when Speed informed me that there had been some demolition on the site and things were changing I was keen to explore one of the few remaining derelict breweries that I had not had the pleasure of seeing.
Traditional brewery building with iron topped tower. Inside many of the tanks and vessels still remain. Other than that the place is pretty stripped, but as usual there were plenty of bits they had missed if you take the time to find them.
The clock still retains it's mechanism and it it's pendulum is one of the best I have ever seen, its HUGE! Wooden barrels, the branding irons to stamp them with and a selection of brewer's journals were amongst the best things we found.
After a tough day exploring we retired to the nearest pub to enjoy a pint of the beer that had once been brewed in the building we had just been in, and that's always satisfying!
