In the centre of a working class community. This sports centre was a hub of activities all year round. I personally remember going to Nike football camps in the summer (I wasn't any good, it was just something to do)
Build in 1978 and refurbed in 2009 you'd think this was still an active sports centre with such recent updates, but no, another one finds itself being removed from the community for housing.
Just up to a few years ago it was still being used for changing rooms at least as it's attached to a large field that previously offered a large number of full size pitches for Sunday league football.
With being new to urbex it only came into mind when i saw the door closing when I was driving passed a few weeks ago. So with this and 2 other locations on the list for the same trip we made this one the first as I knew the way in would be pretty straight forward.
As soon as I got in, there was a sleeping bag at the door, I don't know if it had been there long but it's odd to think someone would sleep at the door when there was much warmer and dryer places to be slept in.
The roof is isn't in great shape so plenty puddles around on the courts/pitches themselves but once you go further into the centre it's not in terrible nick and quite a lot was left behind. Office internals, a classic twin casset player, TV's, Table tennis table, a bunch of full size football nets, corner flags with embroidered "Tameside Football League" logos, footballs, basketballs and other bits and bobs.
The toilets had been smashed up a little and there were windows put through sporadically.
Not the most exciting explore by a long way but nice to fit into a 3 part evening.
