During a trip to the Balkans so we happened to pass this abandoned old Motel. We of course had to take a quick look, and a few pictures. The Motel was a rather disgusting place, full of feces from animals inside the building, but the architecture was, as it often is in the Balkans, Yugoslavia from time, exciting.
During the visit, thoughts, and questions why this motel was now a ruin. Predictions of course, was that it depended on the Bosnian war, but it was not like so many other hotel shattered, but just empty and abandoned.
Motel Miljevina. After a little research it turns out that Motel Miljevina is in an area where during the war were committed many war crimes. A lot of "ethnic cleaning"
A report by Human Rights Watch shows that Motel Miljevina was the staff room for Bosnian Serb soldiers in Miljevina area which organized and led "ethnic cleaning". That can then be an explanation to this Motels fate. Could be that the previous owner was Bosniak or Croatian, and left the area, dead or alive.
Tragically, that something like this could happen in Europe in the 1990s, may it never happen again!
