This is one of the Quarry's in the small village of Combe Down just outside Bath. This is a limestone quarry, worked in the 18th and 19th century. The stone was used for many of the buildings in Bath as well as for other around the United Kingdom including Buckingham Palace.
Sometime after 2003 a backfill with concrete was started to stabilise the mine. Archaeologically important areas were filled with sand, and new bat caves and tunnels were created.(wiki)
