Further to a recent post from albino-jay (member) beginning of last month, I decide to take a look myself at the sorry sights of Pontins as I only live a few miles away!
The Pontin’s holiday park in Blackpool was closed October 2009 with the loss of 70 jobs.
The resort, which opened over 40 years ago, has fallen out of favour with UK visitors in recent years, suffering a drop in visitor numbers while other Pontin’s parks across the UK have increased in popularity. It reflects the changing fortunes of Blackpool itself, which has been lacking investment over the last 10 to 15 years.
Pontin’s, was founded in 1946 by Fred Pontin, currently has six resorts across the UK. The cheap and cheerful brand specialises in offering half-board and self-catering holidays by its Bluecoat hosts who, just like Butlin's, are trained entertainers and guest hosts!!! With the closure of Blackpool, Pontin’s owner Ocean Parcs, is set to invest in the remaining five Pontin’s parks across the UK, with £100 million set aside to transform the Southport Pontin’s (located 35 miles from Blackpool) into a ‘holiday village’ with the creation of 250 jobs.
This is my first upload and must apologies for the amount of picture but just got a bit carried away.
I hope you enjoyed................Will Knot
