Hello Again!
After our scorching week gone by, I came across a little resting station when making my way back home from my recent trip to the Mid Wales asylum.
The place in question is a little hotel named the ‘Newport Towers Hotel’
I couldn’t find too much information on the place, however what I could find stated that the building, built in the 1960’s, was a very popular rest spot during the 70’s and 80’s as it is strategically placed between Bristol and Gloucester on the A38. Hosting many events throughout the years, mostly being a cheap wedding reception venue and also a place to host art work throughout the years.
During the 1990’s the M5 was built and this marked the slow and steady decline of the Hotel. People were no longer using the A38 as frequently as they were previously and finally in 2006 the place closed its doors for good.
Since then, various planning applications to demolish and build care homes have been put forward and struck down due to the cattle farm close by where people stated that the smell would be an issue, and more recently a sewerage system that is based close to the site that has a tendency to flood during heavy downpours of rain. So, sadly – the building remains completely vacant and at the mercy of vandals. When I visited the site, there is evidence of people trying to burn the place down with bales of straw that have been set fire and left in what I would have assumed to be a dancing hall or a function room of sorts. Broken glass and graffiti just littered the site everywhere. I am not surprised that they eventually boarded up every window in site.
Sadly, I forgot my tripod, so the images are not the best… an iPhone torch really does not cut it when it boils down to light paining in my opinion.
