Firstly can I apologise as these are my first attempt at non point & shoot and also first attempt at editing etc!![Eek! ](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Little bit of history although has been covered many times before.
The North & South casemates are part of the Western outworks next to the Citadel Fort within the Western Heights napoleonic defences.
They were constructed between 1858 and 1860 to further strengthen the fortifications.
The Citadel is still in use as an immigration centre and the majority of the rest of the site is under EH.
North & South are connected by an interesting chalk drain with a nice tight squeeze!
