Hi, I’m benjy this is my first report.

Decided to make one last return to Denbigh's Lunatic Asylum before it is demolished for good..

Obviously (with good reason) a very popular place amongst the urbex community! Without going into too much details..

Originally known as the North Wales County Lunatic Asylum when it opened in 1848, the asylum was the first institution of its kind to care for people living with mental illness in North Wales. During its nearly 150 year history up to its closure in 1995, thousands of patients had passed through its doors.

Procedures included and are not limited to: ECT, lobotomies, and amputations all whilst patients were conscious. There are reports in the the hospital's annual minutes of staff being dismissed for hitting patients or abusing them in some way or another.

Plans have been approved for apartments to be built. Seems a real shame to demolish such a great bit of history. Have really enjoyed visiting here across the years!

Hope I’ve done this right. Enjoy the report!

Good job mate!
It's sad that it'll be gone forever. Clearly it would be alot of work and money to restore but the structure is stunning.

The whole front half of it, where the floors were removed and the roof replaced, is listed and will be incorporated into whatever development eventually takes place. Everything behind that will be demolished.

Thanks for that info, I did wonder. They did the same with Stone House asylum near me. And I believe also kept parts of Cartham too.

It's a shame how much will be lost but I'm glad at least part of it will remain. Nothing sadder than a whole building bieng turned to rubble.
