So another trip taken in this cold month of Jnauary to burn off the excess turkey and booze from Christmas and onto another abandoned site.
Explored with Cyberchi again one sunny day in January – our target: Ongar train station on what used to be Epping to Ongar branch line of the Central line.
Closed in the 1990s, the line was abandoned but is now in the process of being turned into a heritage railway line.
For our explore, we went to Ongar station but found that the place was buzzing with workers. We could see the old trains and carriages there from other reports but couldn’t find a way of getting closer with so much activity and getting caught. But seeing what they have done to Ongar station we were quiet impressed with the retro outlook of the refurbished station.
As it was a no-no, I though there must be other station/stops from the terminus being a branch line and decided to hop in the car and follow the line down and then bingo - another station after Ongar towards Epping!
Not too sure if anyone has been to the stop further down the line from Ongar. Seems like the company that has ownership of the heritage line has also renovated and almost finished North Weald station, but still some interesting bits and bobs to check out.
