I had come across references to these mines on several occasions and finally got round to going and having a look.
The mines consist of adits into the riverbank.I was under the impression they were only accessible from the river ,so made my way along the river bed with only minor flooding of my wellies.
These mines were opened prior to 1863 and closed prior to 1865 .They consist of a small network of stoop and room workings on the riverbank of Linhouse Water and can be easily examined in half an hour.
Unfortunately there is a lot of rubbish and graffiti in some sections and one of the galleries ends in a flooded pool.
The mine entrance.Blocked with a 5 ft wall.
Flooded gallery.
The unblocked exit just round the corner from the blocked up entrance.
