1. The History
This thousand-plus seater theatre is located in Hong Kong. Spread over two floors, it had a lobby at street level and a main auditorium, with stalls and balcony on the first floor. It opened in 1979 and in 1994, it was split into two with one auditorium in the stalls and the other in the balcony section of the theatre, along with a second projection room in a new room built on the roof. Sadly, this modification didn't save the theatre as it closed for business in March 2000. It got a brief new lease of life when reopened in early 2005 when it staged Thai-style variety shows. This lasted until 2008, when its performance license was revoked and it closed again. Since then, it has remained empty and unused.
2. The Explore
This is my last report from Hong Kong from this Summer’s trip and it has to be one of my fave explores of the year; a cinema in great nick with everything still in-situ and not one but two projector rooms. This was a night-time explore and I’m indebted and grateful to the good @drhowser for making it happen. It really was a fantastic hour or so spent,
3. The Pictures
Starting in the basement, they have a bit of a water ingress issue:
Up a floor and on to the first projection room:
Spools a plenty:
17-input light mixing desk:
On to the main room:
It’s glitzy in places:
Love the row lighting:
And the main stage:
On to the stage:
Golden curtains!
P.A. system:
Looking out:
Abandoned money!
