in the small village of Pentlow just outside of Braintree Essex stands the Pentlow tower also known as Bull's Tower
In the garden of the Rectory at Pentlow stands a 95ft tower was erected in 1859 by a former incumbent of Pentlow, Rev. Edward Bull, in memory of his parents Rev John and Mrs Margaret Bull “on a spot that they loved so well” The tower underwent some restoration work in 2006.
It is an octagonal structure of red brick with designs in black. Windows in the sides light the oak 114 steps spiral staircase
the explore
spotted this a few months back on my way to price up a job
finally found some spare time over the Christmas break to get a few things ticked off my list so a couple of us headed down to check this out as its only 30min away
was easy to get to and out of sight this stands in the middle of a forest behind a large house by the look of thing the house is used as a weeding venue
only down side was surrounded by large trees so is hard to photograph the outside and battling early morning low sun
after climbing the spiral stairs that were getting more and more rotten the higher we got finally got to the top the view was great apart from the phone masts could see over miles of countryside all around
doing some research on google apparently this was used as a lookout tower in world war two
enjoy the pics
