Visited with Pom, CatVStyle and NightVision.

We arrived to a slightly unnerving situation. Lots of secca everywhere! Not only on site with dogs, also a lot of separate companies driving about directly outside. After doing some investigation, NightVision hopped in for a quick nosey. Luckily there was still access. Our main challenge was to avoid all of the secca! After a bit of a :turd scared moment, we decided to just go for it as stealthily as possible. Really glad we did! I even saw a shooting star from the roof (not pictured) and made a wish :D *yay*

This visit was much more adrenaline filled than the previous, since asbestos removal has begun they have really ramped up the secca.

Some parts of the building such as the children's ward still contain their inherent sense of creepiness. Another area of the building still contains certain things we would rather avoid, which we continued to avoid on this visit.

History:

Peterborough District Hospital is a war memorial hospital for treatment of acute conditions. Having been open from 1928 -- in 1948 this hospital became part of the NHS -- until 2010, when all services were transferred to Peterborough City Hospital.

The oldest part of this hospital is Neo-Georgian, it was subsequently added to in 1960, 1968 and 1970 -- when the maternity unit as built.

In 1993 Peterborough District Hospital was grouped with Edith Cavell Hospital in what became the Peterborough Hospitals NHS Trust. This was joined by Stamford and Rutland Hospitals in 2002, gaining top marks in acute treatment. In 2004 this collective became one of the health services first ten foundation trusts in England.

After a £300 million investment plan, the Edith Cavell Hospital was developed into Peterborough City Hospital. All services from Peterborough District Hospital were transferred there in 2010, leaving this site empty.

Redevelopment:

All areas of this site apart from the original Memorial Hospital (grade 2 listed) will be demolished. The original building is to be incorporated into the site re-design.

This 22 acre site is due to be transformed into 330 new homes, a school, sports pitches, open space, parking and infrastructure.
