This site has always been a source of great curiosity for me - my family come from the Village and used the train terminal at this site to get from Manchester into the deepest corners of Wales way back in the 60s.

Having seen it in passing on multiple occasions, I took a wander inside, tentatively, as I was Ill-equipped for the walls of asbestos around me.

The History
One of four such establishments opened in 1937 by the milk marketing board, originally as a depot for collecting milk from local farms and then loading them onto trains running the Manchester-Milford Railway line. In the first few years, they established butter and powdered milk manufacturing facilities.

The railway line was open to passengers from Aberystwyth to the villages surrounding Pont Llanio. This service ended in 1965, the Creamery itself closing in 1970.

It’s currently owned by a local farmer who uses some of the sheds for storing hay and farm equipment but otherwise it is free from any great quantity of graffiti and remains in respectable condition.

Approaching from the gate - offloading bay, often mistaken (understandably) as the platform for the rail line, this however runs parallel to the left of this photo.

Quite an imposing lump of grey when you stand below it.

With the tracks all but overgrown, this water tower is the last suggestion of a rail line when looking over the bridge

I've enjoyed this report, not least it gave me quite a bit to research to do starting with , of course the DMU, which is a class 120 - the last unit lasting until 1989, so not sure about the 2010 date on the picture which is obviously much earlier. Info on class 120 at Class 120 DMU The picture looks like an enthusiasts special. The other picture shows the use of such railway milk tankers.. Although most of the buildings you photograph are from the 1937 MMB one an earlier one was constructed in 1896 The Derelict Miscellany :: Pont Llanio Milk Factory The info at English – Coflein says the railway link closed in 1970 so I guess that special train was just before or just after closure. There are quite a few memories on this place at The peoples Collection Wales and I'll leave you to search their records if interested. However their page at The Collection | Peoples Collection Wales has some pictures which you can click on for more information. There are also pictures at Pont Llanio Milk Factory - Mar. '11 including the water tank and the railway goods shed which nicely brings me back to the station at Pont Llanio railway station - Wikipedia. Thanks for posting the report
