Visited twice. First time was a spur of the moment midweek jaunt at 3.30am, then I returned with @Grom with our waders so we could tackle the pump room.
Some brief history:
During the 1930’s a vast underground storage facility was dug deep in to Portsdown Hill overlooking Portsmouth, capable of holding up to around 180,000 tons of oil in 9 concrete storage tanks, each 35ft high. The site was decommissioned in the 1990's.
Visit one was fairly chilled. Visit two ended in disaster with @Grom stepping blindly into a hole in the ground as we waded though water in the pump room that was up to the thighs and had a nice thick layer of oil on top so you had no idea what was below you. The floor is littered with stuff that trips you up or you get your foot stuck in. Plus it is an utterly toxic environment. Be warned kids!

Poor Grom's camera. Glad you are ok though mate. That was a fucking heart stopper for me so christ knows how you felt!
