Long established gun makers and sportsman's shop. The tall workshops at the back housed barrel makers, stock makers, and other tradesman who would manufacture high end guns to order. The below video will tell you anything you need to know. It closed in 2008 when the old boys retired and sold up. It was briefly used as a shoe shop on ground level, before the roof got the lead nicked and since then it has gone down hill rapidly.
I've had my eye on this for around a decade. On Speed and I's regular mooching sessions we did the usual check on it, first off looking to see if there was a convoluted way of access round the back. Walked past the front and I noticed there was a hasp and staple with no lock, gave it a push and bugger me, the door was open!
I've had a couple of return visits, something is going on in there, I've seen a lone man bagging up the filth so it must be legit, although very amateur when you think of the million quid it needs spending on it. Perhaps it's being prepped for sale.
Verdict - good not great. It was actually very un-spoilt in the workshops, with benches, hearth, and a few shreds of gun related bits and bobs left inside. I had hoped for rooms packed with stuff like the last gun factory, but I guess the bar was set far too high by that place! Good to finally see it after years of wanting in it.
Best in here I think, it's not as easy as it was but still doable. I can only imagine the brap brap videos that would surface from the place!
