Visited with MOFO, good to meet you
Been past here literally hundreds of times and finally got round to having a look
The original barracks was built on the site in 1793 because of the threat of Napoleon landing on the coast and at one time there was enough stables to house 1000 horses. More buildings were added on the site in the 1850's but most of these regency buildings were demolished to make way for Halfords and B&Q in 1990 :crazy
The large brick building still standing was built around 1900 as the officer's mess.
secure storage
pigeons had made more mess than the chavs!
MOFO downstairs, trying to block the stench of pigeon poo by holding his nose
We didnt spend a long time in here due to the awful smell.
On the same site is the T/A building, which was opened in 1988 (called The Somme Centre) and features a rifle range, this building had a really strange atmosphere which was added to by the mad posters and remants of numerous raves!
rifle range backstop
MOFO demonstrating the firing point
this is a good one
inside the ammo store (complete with armoured door)
the site was bought by a development firm in 2002 but the council cant decide what they want put on the land
