Brewtal had told me about this old factory last spring. But I never got around to see it as never had a chance. I was heading up to see the girlfriend for Christmas. Normally I drive straight up there, but this time I decided to drive a fair way up and stop overnight. She was working the next day so decided to finally go here and have a look. The place is a big site, it's trashed within an inch of its life. Still amazes me how something so big can get so trashed. But trashed as it is it's a very photogenic and interesting place. Some lovely light coming in and some nice colours. There is a lot of great graffiti around the site. Also I spotted four graffiti artists inside doing there work. Lots of little bits hidden up as well to the look at.
The factory was one of the oldest in Glasgow. It opened up in 1892 and produced fire resistant boards. The company was bought out in 2002 by Promat which is a Belgium company. They decided to shut the factory making the 100 staff redundant over two phases. The first lot in December 2014 and the rest in 2015. The union complained saying they had chosen the factory because they belonged to the union. Were the others across the country did not belong to unions and did not close.
The outside of the factory with the admin block to the right.
Inside is quite stripped but some bits of machinery are still inside.
What looks like some kilns.
Overhead gantry crane.
Pressure treatment chambers.
Some huge mixing bowl. That's what it looked like anyway.
