This is my first post so go easy and sorry but its pick heavy, any hints and tips please say. Anyway this was always a good place to visit because it being so easy to explore as its in a field and there was a fair amount to see, and there's still more to see RAF Grove was originally intended for bomber training in 1941 but then is used to train glider pilots. In 1943 it was taken over by the USAAF and this is where the 9th USAAF were building up before the invasion of Europe, at one point a top secret bomber called the Vickors Armstrong 'Windsor' crash lands at Grove. In 1946 the base is handed back over to the RAF and is gradually wound down, German prisoners of war are moved in to demolish parts of the airfield, numerous squaderons take over and then the UKEA take over the west side of the airfield in the 1950s at one point a USAF jet lands mistakenly at RAF Grove and UKEA stay till the late 60s it is then sold to companys like 'metalbox'. There are plans for it being turned into a big housing estate so get there whist its still there! Could only do so many, found out the owner was in the next room of the Ops Room! We wanted to get more shots but we would be meters away from the owner, so with that we had to call it a day!
