History (from Berties report)
RAF Siggiewi was originally built on or about the 1st of May 1919 when the first shore-based radio communication with the UK from Malta was set up at Rinella. Contrary to some views, there never was a runway attached to Siggiewi, and I believe that some of the confusion could be over Qrendi which is nearby. As a signals centre it was an important link in the chain of radio stations stretching from the UK to the Far East, with RAF Habbaniya (Iraq) being the next major station on the "net". Like many of the military installations on Malta, the main complex (operations centre) was mostly underground and as mentioned previously, there was a satellite HF/DF station within walking distance of the camp, located on the road heading out toward Siggiewi. This came under the command and control of Luqa and was one of the many HF/DF stations (call sign MT) ranged throughout the Middle-East. El-Adem, (Libya) and Abu Sueir, (Egypt) were part of the original chain.
So me and @Bertie Bollockbrains got this lead from @Oxygen Thief not really knowing much about it or what to expect when we got there. It wasn't a hard site to crack once we sussed it out the only problem is the fully live police training headquarters which is in full view of the entrance to the main comms bunker, you can hear gun shots every now and again can see police marching around the yard but that wan not going to put us off
Just to put in to perspective how close it is
So we found our access point and darted across the site to the 1st point in which we believed was the entrance to the bunker to find it pretty bare and not really anything like you would expect a comms bunker to look like...
Just two big empty rooms which look more like an ammo stores than a comms bunker in which i believe it was...
The 4 decommissioned masts were over close to the police training compound so we went to the next part...
We entered the comms bunker by the maintenance shaft in where the air units filters and generators live
Then it was in to the bunker...
This would have been to the main entrance
