Formally opened Monday 11 March 1929 as the Regent Cinema, sadly now Flutters Bingo faces an uncertain future.
Earmarked for demolition as part of a mega Sainsburys redevelopment scheme the club is due to close in a couple of months. The heating system is still oil fueled and broke last year, unable to pay for it to be repaired and with dwindling numbers of members has made the business even less viable.
Inside and outside the building has remained largely unchanged, any work has been done quite sympathetically and many original features still remain intact. It was changed into a bingo hall in 1968, all of the stalls and chairs were put into storage and the dressing rooms became staff fag areas and old lady trolly parks.
As usual the key to the projection room has been lost, as interestingly has the key to an entire area at the rear of the building. Locked from the inside since the 80's apparently. Yes to that.
Anyways, thankyou to Jack for showing us around and taking the time to talk to us.
And sorry the pics are huge, i can't bloody work computers. Ffs.
