A solo visit to this project started off nice an easy, got there with no holdups or traffic and found a parking space nice an easy (in a bus stop out of use for the evening). On a close reccy of the complex it became clear the rest of the evening was going to require stealth (of course) but more of the ‘fuck it its now or never’ attitude, to be honest.
secca was patrolling on foot and in vans, the site offices all had lights on, and network rail personnel were all around the perimeter I assume doing work to the tracks opposite the complex. Anyway after a successful entrance I made my way to the tallest of the six cranes thinking get up there first so if I get caught atleast id of had my up high fix.
At the top I soon realised id been spotted at some point, secca on foot had all congregated at the base, the vans had parked strategically around the perimeter, an 2 police cars had parked 1 at each entrance (but stayed in their cars weirdly). I stayed up there for a while finished taking photos and then began the decent to witch I was sure ‘another walk of shame’ to the back of a police car was going to happen… but wait…it would seem I was in luck, secca was no longer at the base…but where have they gone. I took a detour to the back of the 3rd level and climbed down the scaff there instead…still no sign of secca, I made my way to the perimeter fence taking photos on the way. I climbed up to check I was out of view of any vans, I was.. but was in view of streams of people walking down the road from the train station I assume. I had no choice but to hop over there so I did and to my astonishment nobody blinked an eyelid.
I then just became part of the crowd, walking and taking photos of surrounding buildings, walked clear past the police car and secca vans (who didn’t notice the guy in black clothing caked in rubble dust), and walked to my car and drove away unscathed.
Thanks for listening, sorry about some of the shots it was a very foggy night and I'm not the best with a cam.
Construction work on a casino, hotel, cinema and shopping complex at the NEC.
It's being built by a Malaysian gambling firm, Genting. It's being called Resorts World, Birmingham. There'll be a four star hotel with 170 rooms, 45 shops, an eleven screen cinema and a casino.
1750 jobs have been created for the construction of the seven-storey, 538,000sq ft complex. Genting is a huge Malaysian company which is involved in producing palm oil, gas and power generation and operates cruise ships. It already operates four casinos in Birmingham and Coventry. The idea behind the scheme is to mainly attract people to the NEC but to convince those who come for concerts to stay longer and spend money at the hotel, in the shops and in the casino.
Experts say the regional economy will benefit from a £60 million boost during the building of the casino complex and up to £33 million per year after the opening.
Construction at the site, next to the LG Arena, will last two years with the centre due to open to the public in early 2015.
Resorts World Birmingham will comprise of:
170 room four star hotel with five star suites and spa
A designer outlet centre with 50 units selling a range of discounted fashion, shoes and electronics
A 11-screen cinema with state-of-the-art digital technology
A multi-use banqueting and conference centre
A casino offering a contemporary and exciting gaming experience
A wide range of internationally-themed restaurants and bars.
Thats the third floor you can see at the bottom there
