Just trawling though a few things we did this summer that never got a report. @Dempsey was in town and fancied seeing the B station control room on site so i struck him a deal... I'll show you that and you can show me this!
Luckily despite being a fully live part of the site with noise and steam exiting from every orifice we managed to get a bit further than he did before and discovered a new hall (to us anyway) this hall housed three now derelict JOY compressors but would originally have housed a large turbine generator.. or at least it said it was a generator on some of the leftover equipment in there. I'm not sure what relation if any it would have had to the old Winnington power stations. I thought it might even have been the remains of the 'A' Station for a second but as far as im aware that was in a slightly different spot and much larger so who knows!
On the side of this turbine hall there was a cracking two level substation straight out of the 1920s (or older!) Proper slate panels with an epic array of gauges, dials, enamel signs and all things nice. I especially liked the three voltmeters on a hinged panel showing positive negative and incoming voltage suggesting they were rectifying to DC there too??
Theres going to be so much more to come from this site once the rest shuts down and you can spend a bit more time hunting it out but dont try this one unless you have a good idea what you're doing. It's no 'Urbex Adventure' it's butt fucking territory.

Turbo Compressor House
Many disused steam turbines and a pair of live gas turbines by the look of it.
Turbo Generator House
Now home to some JOY compressors but you can clearly see the outline of the former turbine base..
