The building in Abbey Street opened in July 1937 as a Union Cinema but, a company taken over by ABC Cinemas later that same year. Fast forward to the 1960s when the cinema became a Ritz Cinema until 1984. Next, the stunning Art Deco inspired interior was fully restored before opening as a bingo hall after being taken over by Gala Bingo. The bingo hall closed twenty four years later in 2008 and has been empty ever since.
