The Terrence Building, part of the Rochester Psychiatric Center in New York, opened in 1959 as a 16-story psychiatric hospital. It housed over 1,000 beds and specialized departments, including a ward for the criminally insane and a morgue in the basement. Despite being initially seen as a "tower of hope," the building faced allegations of patient abuse and neglect. It closed in 1995, and its abandoned structure has since become a site for urban exploration and redevelopment proposals. The building remains a haunting reminder of past mental health care practices.
