The hospital originally opened in 1846 on nearby Rendezvous St. in Folkestone town centre and was known as the Folkestone Dispensary. In 1863 it relocated to a site on Dover Rd and was expanded and re-named the Folkestone Dispensary and Infirmary.

In 1890, it moved to this new general hospital building opened overlooking Radnor Park and was again re-named, this time to the Victoria Hospital. It served the town and borough of Folkestone and 1910 was when it became the Royal Victoria Hospital.

By the 1970s, all services were being scaled down and in 1979 when the new William Harvey Hospital opened in neighbouring town Ashford most were then transferred there. The Royal Victoria then became a centre for geriatric, stroke rehabilitation, eye surgery and GP patients.

In 2005/6 the last remaining wards closed and the old Victorian building has been standing there since.

This was an early Sunday morning visit alone. I hope you enjoy my pics from my first report on here.

Nice one mate. I have not see this before :thumb
cheers mate. There are a couple of older reports on here but all of those are when it was in a lot better condition. The pigeons have claimed it as their own now for sure lol. Wanted something a bit different for my first post on here.

Nice to see some recent pics form the place mate, has started to decay nicely since the early days
It sure has from the other reports on here. If you do go though, prepare for the mounds of pigeon shit and to get dive bombed on one of the floors they have totally taken over. Was an added bonus getting into the mortuary rooms

Nice one. I have been living in folkestone for a while and have always wondered what it was like in there. I have noticed a couple of entry points worth investigating. Some nice shots there mate. What are you using?

it has decayed nicely, was once upon a time a fully loaded hospital with most of the kit inside..just with everything it got destroyed
and I think I'm correct in saying that it has now been bought and the process of redevelopment has begun (although it still looks like a total shit tip from the outside with nothing changed except more graff on the windows). I've been in here many times as this is my local derp but not for a few months, my last visit I crossed paths with workers going in as I was leaving. I'm thinking a little visit is on the cards soon to see what has become of the place now before its completely converted into some lush overly expensive flats.

I went here about 4 months ago, nothing had been done yet so I’m guessing the workers went in not long after me. If you do go back could you update us on what’s changed inside etc.
