After one or two sherberts the night before i needed to get out but time was limited. A couple of months ago my kids had a go at an artificial caving trip and loved it. Seeing as it was just above freezing and they dont have the proper gear i thought today was a great oppertunity to show them that yorkshire caving is a long way from cosy artifical caves.
Thistle and runscar caves are both grade II easy walking and crawling caves with a few low bits and plenty of ways out.the local outward bound centres use them to introduce novices in to the sport.thistle is still an active stream cave where as thristle is paricialy abandoned as the water goes through the bed rock in certain areas leaving the cave dry and muddy.
For a first trip my 6 year old did pretty well and it was a joy just to get underground again. hope you like the pics they were shot on a 14mp sony as i didnt want to take a "proper" camera so the quality isnt top notch but ive done my best.
tell mum we went to mcdonalds!
scalloped rocks coloured from peat and iron deposits in the active streamway
calcite deposits with gold lycen
stalagtites
a new explorer has joined the fold
Hope you like them.
