Visited 3 times now and on our fourth visit it is now pretty hard to gain access due to security on site and cctv, there is a little box with a guy who hides away so just to warn anyone who want to give it ago. Really enjoyed exploring the college as it offered so much variety in what was there to see. In all our visits the security has boosted up.

some history
Saint Joseph's College was founded in 1880 by Bishop Bernard O'Reilly to be the Seminary serving the North West of England. The college was formally opened in 1883 and was situated in Walthew Park, Upholland, the geographic centre of the Diocese of Liverpool. Candidates for the priesthood studied and were ordained at the college. Up until the second Vatican Council boys as young as 11 years of age entered the Junior Seminary before progressing to the senior Seminary at 18. In 1972 following changes of policy the two junior seminaries of Saint Joseph's and Ushaw, along with the junior seminary of Saint Michael's, merged at Upholland, and in 1975, with declining numbers of men from Ireland offering themselves for the (now) Archdiocese of Liverpool the Senior seminary moved to Ushaw. In the 1980s Saint Joseph's offered boarding school education for boys considering a vocation up until 1987. From then until 1991.

You've got some nice shots there :thumb

There have always been secca and CCTV, they're based in the little gatehouse. Guy drives a black Fiester on site and is pleasant enough though he still asks you to leave! :coat

This time round however there was a little box with a guy hiding inside it when we last visited, and had the cameras following us as we went round, all other times we went we had no a single issue, easy access stayed for hours, even alarms went off at one point and no one came, this time round however more work is being done on the site i think.

heavy secca? yeah sure. ;)

the majority of times we visited even in the day, security was non existent, easy access, stayed for hours. Just recently things have changed with there being more CCTV which was monitored as we watched it follow us and the guy hiding in his box hahahah.

That wasn't the alarm you heard it was a girl that got trapped in there may years ago and warns off people that aren't supposed to be there..

I thought the alarm sounded strangely like a scream, Seems like my mind just wanted me to think it was the alarm after I got out...

Needless to say I'll be going back soon so she's going to have to get used to me

I can confirm there is still a high level of security, I went over 12.30 Tuesday night, 12th July for a preliminary mooch, guard was in his cabin. A few hours kip in my car and I was back in anger at 4.30am. Plan was to find the best entry by make a circuit of the place keeping to the undergrowth Ninja styley.
Made it most of the way around identifying a possible entry when the security guard jumped out from around the corner of the building!
All I could think of saying was; "Ah Shit".
Apparently I'd been spotted on the security cameras that I didn't even notice.
I'll give the chap his due he was very pleasant about it all, no ranting or raving or threats that I've come to expect, I thing he even might of appreciated the break in monotony!
I will be back though, hope anyone else visiting has better luck.

People really need to understand how motion sensors and cameras work at these types of places, not
Sure how you couldn't spot then there's a fair few on brilliant white posts sticking out all round the place ;)
