The Carrefour 248 position had four bunkers with anti tank and machine guns covering the four roads. There must have been heavy fighting around as there a loads of depressions in the ground which are either bombs or shell holes. The soldiers had an underground shelter behind the crossroads to rest away from any fighting. The shelter is difficult to find as there is nothing above ground and it is thick brush. I just chanced across it. There is also an underground shelter further forward which is just a steel lid with a ladder which drops into a 12 x 12 concrete room, it is full of rubbish and old tyres.
Just came across the hidden entrance in the thick undergrowth.
In the depression the entrance is more easily seen.
The chicane entrance
Looking back up the steps
The interior of the shelter
The second entrance, was right next to the trackway.
Niche at the end, not sure what it was for
Looking back into the shelter from the second entrance chicane
Looking out of the second entrance
Very well hidden second entrance
The forward shelter, I think this was for the forward troops in the trenches during artillery barrages, and with comms equipment back to the command bunker
The lid is not locked, and the ladder leads down to the shelter, but is filled with rubbish and old tyres.
