Report - Shakespeare County Raceway - Stratford - Jun 20

Popped in here with my lad today as its destine not to be here for much longer!

Not much to tell about this place really, also known as Avon park raceway or long marston raceway it was opened in 1973 after Santa pod & followed by york raceway.
Unfortunately in 2018 the strip was shut & planning for development passed on the site but as yet little has been done.

Having watched a NSRA event here myself many years ago its sad to see the empty stands.

Not sure when work will begin I was under the impression they had started building but there is still a land for sale sign up! They have certainly fenced it all off since I visited the planes some years back

As far as I’m aware (local rumour) cala who were originally meant to be building houses on the site have pulled out, due to the mounds around the site being full of asbestos, no idea how true this is but the Cala homes signs mysteriously disappeared a couple of months ago and were replaced with a sign advertising industrial development land?

Didn't know that mate, I assume they must be making it into industrial units meh, they're an eyesore themselves if I'm honest

That would make sense as mentioned I thought it was sold for housing & they still have flag poles at entrance where they obviously had advertising

Quite a few hit it! Raced and worked there over 25 years and its sad to see it in this state.

Been lurking on 28Dl for years and had to register for this, Spent some of the best times of my life here, GTI International. Drinking, smoking, camping. Wasted BMXing down the drag strip and keeping on going till the concrete ran out at 4 am.

Happy times. The news it was going to be razed to the ground actually made me cry. Sad I know.

I've dropped in here today for a nosey whilst passing for work and unfortunately since the last report it's now been demolished and groundwork has begun on the development, there was some metal near the perimeter fence that I'm hoping isn't the remains of the old Avro aircraft......

I was there today, Both of the former museum aircraft are still on site.
