Sheerness Steel A.K.A Thamesteel
This large and looming foundary next to the docks of Ilse Of Sheepy went into administration in January 2012 putting over 350 people out of work then in June 2012 it had been sold out of administration to a new company owned by the Al-Tuwairqi Group (ATG). It was reported its future was again in doubt as the firm is looking for financial backers before it can reopen, a possible solution could be for a company to invest in ATG rather than the assets but to do this, they would have to be convinced it will be successful so they would get a return on their money. At the moment nothing has come of the meetings and the site lays in a state of suspendid animation, trucks and diggers parked up and pretty much all power has been isolated and even some workshops cleared out. The prospect of Thamesteel reopening is looking increasingly gloomy. Hower there is the odd worker onsite and some small jobs are being done but the production of steel has ceased and gone cold.
Heres a few pictures from the explore.

We can only hope that a deal is struck and jobs are created back on this impressive site.
Thanks for looking.
