The history
Dr Richard Formby, who co-founded Liverpool medical school, built the original house in 1853.
Named after a gentle slope in the land, Dr Formby wanted to spend his retirement years close to the sea and thought the Lifeboat Road site ideal for this purpose.
Ex- Mr Universe Terry Phillips acquired the site in the 1990s and it took on a new identity as a nightclub until financial difficulties eventually forced the former body builder to relinquish control.
In 2007, the Ascot Group bought Shorrocks Hill Country Club for £4m, with the objective of breaking in to the corporate leisure market but the venture failed and was as famous for a well publicised arson attack on the club in 2009 until it closed around 2016.
There is a proposal to build new homes on the site and the grounds surrounding it are currently used for outdoor activities such as paint balling.
