Snibston Colliery is a preserved complex of colliery buildings, part of the Snibston discovery park. Coal extraction dates back to 1832, in the 1960s the mine was integrated with Whitwick and South Leicester, with coal brought to the surface via a new drift at Snibston. The pit closed in 1983, and today remains as the last surviving example in the North Leicestershire coal field.
Having felt the need to climb more headstocks, RJ and I had this one down as a worthy target for such activities for a while, however his relocation to the south and my commitments elsewhere had meant it was forgotten about. The main appeal was the distinctive tandem shaft headstock, of which I'm not aware of other examples in the country. However seemed rude not to climb them both, so we did.
