South Shields Community School - Formerly Brinkburn Comprehensive School.
Brinkburn Comprehensive School opened 7th May 1960 by William Reid Blyton.
In 2007 King George V School closed and it merged with Brinkburn Comprehensive to create South Shields Community School.
The school closed due to a new "Super School" being built at the cost of 23 million on the former King George V School site,
and is due to open in September 2011.
Parts of the old school are still in use such as the community centre, and the swimming pool.
The main hall is also being used for dance classes etc.
Permission visit, also I used to attend this school myself (leaving in 1985!)

new 1st year starters were pushed down here and spat on, as an "initiation" ceremony...
The original boilers were oil fired, and have now been replaced. These are the old oil tanks still in situ.
The newer gas boilers that replaced the two old oil fired ones.
Disused oil tank level gauges..
