This school is in a garrison town in an area of East Germany which has long had military links. It was built in 1912 and was originally an officers mess. After the second world war it was used as a school for the children of those serving in the Soviet army and many were brought here by bus from surrounding towns. It has been disused since the withdrawal of the Soviets in 1994 and considering all this time and that access wasn't all that difficult its amazing that there were no signs of vandalism, just natural decay. Even though it was largely empty, there were still plenty of fascinating glimpses of the past, of a totally different world. As of this year the gymnasium has been demolished but the main building is listed and renovation work has finally started.
