Report - Sports Centre, St. Albans Herts, Feb 2017

Hi

I've known of this place for years, a large number of my friends worked here and when they finished their shifts, we used to hang around the car park getting up to no good, as teenagers do. The place is very closed now and has been for around 7 years or so. I'm amazed it's not been put on this site yet... Perhaps this one slipped under the radar...?

Back in it's day, this place was considered a state of the art sports centre complete with Pool, Sports Hall/Basketball/Tennis courts, Sports Injury Clinic, Saunas, Gym, Beauticians etc. By todays standards, it's dated quite badly I think.

The photos were taken over 3 separate visits. The site is in regular use by film companies, they were clearly not happy that we'd found our way in and sealed the entrance after the first time we went in. Not well enough though.. ;-)

Hello, thanks for your report. I'd searched a couple of times in the past year for this site as I knew it was abandoned and wondered if anyone had explored it yet. It's been abandoned for 7 years, i'm surprised it hadn't been visited sooner.

I learnt to swim here as a child in 1994 and visited many times with both my parents. I have various memories of this place, all of them good. I remember getting into a playfight with a girl next to the windows, near the flume in your pictures.

It's a little saddening that the place and things I did here as a child exist in my mind, frozen in time with such clarity, only time has moved on.

I was also surprised to find it's not been visited sooner. In fact, I'm beginning to think @dragginmenut and myself were the first to explore the place and post pics!
My memories of the place are mainly driving around the running track and hand brake turns in the car park
