On a recent trip to London with Humpa, raisinwing and dweeb we decided to swing by Springfield just to see what it looked like currently really. Turns out we timed the trip pretty well as a big chunk of the left hand side of the hospital had closed about a week prior. This section of the building was most recently the South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust Headquarters who have been having a phased move into the new ‘Trinity’ building behind the former asylum.

There were a few ‘disused’ older sections but mainly it was modernised office spaces, although the bones of the asylum could be seen hiding behind it all with individual seclusion rooms repurposed as tiny offices and bigger wards kitted out with desks, etc.

Seems strange they removed the fountain, path and trees!

A few shots from some disused sections. Apparently I didn't really take many in these bits.

One of the towers contained the hospital radio. It was pretty empty apart from a stray wheelchair.

Dunno if any London folk have already been poking about in here, be interested to see if we missed anything. Basement level looked like they could be of interest?

Remember looking at this bit when I went and thinking it looked a bit under-used.

Really nice to see more of this, do remember looking into the place and there may be some interesting bits.

Was good to get back here, I think there will certainly be further stuff to go at over the course of the next year as presumably they continue to move out and shut down the remaining parts.

The level of heating was quite ridiculous.

It's quite cool how you can see the bones of the original asylum layout under all the modern office fixtures - take away the suspended ceilings and carpets and it'd have an entirely different look.
